Chère Communauté de l’Ultimate Frisbee,
Vous aurez peut-être appris que l’un de nos jeunes joueurs des Mooncatchers, George Donnet, s’est gravement blessé lorsqu’il représentait fièrement la Belgique à Padoue lors des championnats d’Europe junior U20.
George a dû se faire opérer d’urgence à la jambe à l’hôpital le plus proche en Italie.
Les frais médicaux ont été pris en charge par l’assurance sportive de la fédération belge mais, de manière surprenante, le rapatriement médical n’est pas compris dans la police d’assurance.
Renseignements pris, un rapatriement par avion sans intervention d’une assurance coûte 25.000 EUR ce qui est exorbitant et malheureusement impayable pour les parents de George.
Nous avons trouvé une alternative qui consistait à rapatrier George en ambulance de Padoue jusqu’à Bruxelles.
Il a alors été accompagné médicalement pendant tout le trajet, ce qui était indispensable.
Le coût de ce type rapatriement est de 7.500 EUR.
Après des discussions avec le trésorier et le conseil d’administration, l’ASBL Mooncatchers dédie un montant substantiel de ses réserves pour financer ce rapatriement (1.200 EUR) mais ceci n’est malheureusement pas suffisant. Nous faisons donc appel à la communauté de l’Ultimate pour pouvoir aider les parents de George qui font face à une dépense extrême sans en avoir les moyens.
Nous savons que les valeurs du sport en général et particulièrement celles de l’Ultimate Frisbee permettront aux parents de sortir la tête de l’eau.

Dear Ultimate Frisbee Community,
You may have heard that one of our young Mooncatchers, George Donnet, suffered a serious injury while proudly representing Belgium in Padova at the European Junior U20 Championships.
George had to undergo emergency surgery on his leg at the nearest hospital in Italy.
The medical costs were covered by the Belgian federation’s sports insurance policy but, surprisingly, medical repatriation was not included in the policy.
On enquiry, repatriation by plane without insurance costs EUR 25,000, which is exorbitant and unfortunately unaffordable for George’s parents.
We found an alternative, which was to repatriate George by ambulance from Padova to Brussels. He was then accompanied by a doctor throughout the journey, which was essential.
The cost of this type of repatriation is EUR 7,500.
After discussions with the treasurer and the board of directors, the Mooncatchers NPO is dedicating a substantial amount of its reserves to finance this repatriation (EUR 1,200), but unfortunately this is not enough.
We are therefore appealing to the Ultimate community to help George’s parents who are facing an extreme expense without having the means to do so.
We know that the values of sport in general, and Ultimate Frisbee in particular, will enable parents to get their heads above water.

Jullie hebben misschien gehoord dat één van onze jonge Mooncatchers, George Donnet, een ernstige blessure heeft opgelopen terwijl hij België vertegenwoordigde in Padua op de Europese Junior U20 Kampioenschappen.
George moest een spoedoperatie aan zijn been ondergaan in het dichtstbijzijnde ziekenhuis in Italië.
De medische kosten werden gedekt door de sportverzekering van de Belgische federatie, maar verrassend genoeg was medische repatriëring niet inbegrepen in de polis.
Bij navraag bleek dat repatriëring per vliegtuig zonder verzekering 25.000 euro kostte, wat exorbitant veel was en helaas onbetaalbaar voor de ouders van George.
We vonden een alternatief, namelijk George per ambulance repatriëren van Padua naar Brussel. Hij werd tijdens de hele reis vergezeld door een arts, wat essentieel was.
De kosten van dit type repatriëring bedragen 7.500 euro.
Na discussies met de penningmeester en het bestuur heeft de Mooncatchers VZW een aanzienlijk deel van haar reserves gebruikt om deze repatriëring te financieren (EUR 1.200), maar helaas is dit niet genoeg. We doen daarom een beroep op de Ultimate gemeenschap om de ouders van George te helpen die voor een extreme uitgave staan zonder de middelen te hebben om dit te doen.
We weten dat de waarden van sport in het algemeen, en Ultimate Frisbee in het bijzonder, de ouders in staat zullen stellen om het hoofd boven water te houden.
