Belgian Ultimate Indoor Championships Play-offs - March 6th 2016

Cette saison, les Mooncatchers ont inscrit 6 équipes au BUIC en division Open. L'objectif ambitieux était de placer 3 équipes aux Play-Offs, en 1/4 de finale donc, et d'essayer quand même de garder le titre de Champion de Belgique.

Les résultats étaient à la hauteur des objectifs puisque c'est 4 équipes Moons qui se sont qualifiées pour les 1/4 de finale.

Les 2 autres équipes, Rising Moon et Baby Moon, ont terminé respectivement en 5ème et en 4ème division, sur les 9 divisions que compte le BUIC Open.

Baby Moon est monté à chaque journée pour passer de la 8ème à la 4ème division ! L'avenir de l'avenir arrive..., et Tof compte bien continuer avec la nouvelle bande de de jeunes l'année prochaine et aller, qui sait, titiller de la 2ème, voire 1ère division. A suivre.

Rising Moon s'est bien débrouillé et a fait le yo-yo entre la D5 et la D4, sans hélas arriver à passer en D3, mais cela a été une bonne expérience pour les joueurs de Rising qui ont dû assumer tout le jeu. Et, pour avoir un peu joué avec eux et les avoir coaché du mieux possible, l'ambiance et le spirit chez Rising étaient bien sympa. Une mention spéciale pour Pat qui a fait une saison indoor de plus, et qui assure toujours aussi bien techniquement en offense.

Dark Side of the Moon, sans réelle "star-leader", Nico étant passé chez Moon 1, a fait un BUIC en dents de scie avec des hauts et des bas, des montées et des descentes, mais a finalement décroché in-extremis sa qualif pour les 1/4 de finale, un peu aidé par Gentle A qui a bêtement perdu 1 point administratif un peu idiot…

1/4 de finale donc contre les Beezzz, incroyable, les Dark Side sont plus qu'au rendez-vous, ils sont chaud boulette et mènent 6-4, mais hélas, mille fois hélas, ils n'arriveront pas à inscrire ce 7ème point qui aurait pu les voir éliminer les Beezzz dès les 1/4.
Et donc, 6 attaques échouées plus tard, et une belle faute/tentative de défense en passant à travers le dos du receveur, de PJ sur David qui prendra 1 minute à reprendre ses esprits et remettre ses lunettes pour rater ensuite, et c'est 7-6 pour les Beezzz qui se qualifient par la petite porte pour les 1/2.

New Moon a eu une saison à la hauteur des attentes, les jeunes, mais néanmoins petits, Moons ambitieux, ont rempli leur contrat et se sont qualifiés pour les Play-Offs, malgré avoir commencé le BUIC en D3.

Idem pour Full Moon qui a eu un BUIC très régulier, en alternant la D1 et la D2.

New Moon / Full Moon en 1/4 de finale, beau match, fort serré, mais hélas pour Full Moon, Bilal s'est blessé au 1er point, et il a manqué pour stabiliser l'offense, même si Réphaël, Arnaud et les grands jeunes, et Perrine, ont vraiment tout donné et essayé.
Mais bon, fallait bien qu'il y ait une équipe éliminée dans ce 1/4 moonicide.

New Moon en 1/2, et contre les Beezzz, de nouveau une équipe Moon dans leur chemin...
Hélas, 2, 3, erreurs idiotes dans la 2ème partie et à la fin du match empêcheront New Moon d'accéder à la finale.

De son côté, Moon 1, ou Mooncatchers, gagnait son 1/4 contre les Diabolics assez juste au score, 6-5, alors qu'ils menaient 5-2, attention à la facilité...
En 1/2 finale, gros et très beau match des 2 équipes, mais les Moons feront le break les premiers à 6-4, et ne se laisseront plus remonter.
Moon 1 est en totale confiance après un tel match et bien prêt pour la grande finale contre les Beezzz.

Grande finale parce que c'est la finale, mais aussi parce que le terrain a enfin une taille normale, ce qui va permettre d'assister enfin à du plus beau spectacle.
Le spectacle durant cette journée n'a pas été terrible à cause de la taille des terrains, le principal spectacle était surtout le suspense dans la mesure où les matchs étaient généralement forts serrés au score.

L'ambiance est assez incroyable, il y a des Moons partout dans les gradins, et elle va monter et monter progressivement.
1-0 pour les Moons, break 2-0, 2-1, 2-2, 3-4 pour les Beezzz, 4-4, 5-4, et puis ... foot block de Benoît sur PJ, time-out Moon, 6-4. L'ambiance devient dingue dans la salle, chaque point des Moons est salué par une ovation des supporters Rabbits et Ulbistes, mais surtout par tous les Moons présents qui chauffent littéralement la salle.

On commence à entendre dans les tribunes, des débuts timides de : "Est-ce que j'ai raison ? Ohé, ohé, ohé...", c'est encore un peu tôt, mais on sent quand même que les joueurs sont en confiance, et jouent leur meilleur ultimate, que les Beezzz ne reviendront sans doute plus.
John fait un super catch entre 2 brugeois dont PJ, Arthur une défense, et c'est le cas, les Moons restent devant et prennent même 3 points d'avance, et là, les supporters Moons se lâchent, Benoît aussi qui fait alors un scoober de tout le terrain, dans le dos à l'aveugle, catché par Arthur en zone !

"Est-ce qu'on a raison ? Oui on a raison" résonne alors, "Mooncatchers, Mooncatchers, Mooncatchers Champion, Ohé, ohé ohé ohé, we are the Champions, we are the Champions", c'est caisse, le match n'est pas fini, mais on jubile déjà.
Ben arrive en courant et se met torse nu, fait tournoyer son t-shirt et chante avec les supporters.

Les 2 derniers points ne sont plus que du bonheur, et les Moons à l'unisson de chanter et fêter ça.

Résultat final, le titre de Champion (Mooncatchers), et la 4ème (New Moon), 5ème (Full Moon) et 8ème place (Dark Side of the Moon) des Play-Offs !!!
Les Moons dominent l'indoor, et nos titres en U14, U17 et U19 en 2016, me laisse à penser que ce n'est pas fini !

Et l'après match de commencer avec ses sourires, ses blagues, et un bon Schievelavabo pour s'achever en équipe, avec ou sans Jambe de Bois.

This season, the Mooncatchers had 6 teams in the BUIC Open division. The ambitious objective was to send 3 teams to the Play-Offs (quarter finals), and to still try to take home the Belgian Champion title.

The results lived up to the expectations because not only 3, but 4 of our teams qualified to play the quarters.

The two other teams, Rising Moon and Baby Moon, respectively finished in 5th and 4th division, out of the 9 divisions of BUIC Open.

Baby Moon went up a division during each phase of the championships, to go from 8th to 4th division! The future of the future is coming…, and Tof is firmly intended on continuing with this group of young players, with the objective of leading them up to the 2nd or 1st division. To be continued...

Rising Moon did quite well and oscillated back and forth between 5th and 4th division during the various phases, but unfortunately never made it to D3. This was however a great experience for the Rising Moon players who had to assume full responsibility throughout the games. For having played with and coached them to the best of my abilities, the atmosphere and spirit was great in the team. A special mention goes to Pat who completed yet another season of indoor ultimate, and who keeps on showing a truly reliable offensive game.

Dark Side of the Moon, who was left without a “star-leader” with Nico having switched over to Moon 1, played a BUIC with lots of upheavals, moving up and down in the ranking. But finally, and only just, they qualified for the quarters, slightly helped out by Gentle A who lost an unfortunate administrative point…

So quarter final against Beezzz, which was incredible. Dark Side were more than ready, completely psyched, and started by taking a 6-4 lead. Unfortunately, and this is very unfortunate indeed, they didn’t manage to score the 7th point that could have seen the Beezzz eliminated in the quarters.
And so, 6 failed offenses later, after a foul/defensive move straight through the receiver’s back by PJ on David (who, by the way, took 1 whole minute to recover his senses and put his glasses back on, to then make a bad pass), it was 7-6 for the Beezzz, as they slipped through the side-door to the semi-finals.

New Moon exceeded expectations during the season. The young, but small, ambitious Mooncatchers, fulfilled their contract and qualified for the Play-Offs, despite having started the BUIC in D3.

Same thing goes for Full Moon who played a very regular BUIC, alternating between D1 and D2.

New Moon vs Full Moon in the quarters was a very good, tight match. But unfortunately for Full Moon, Bilal got injured after the first point, and thereafter missed out on stabilising the offensive line, even though Réphaël, Arnaud, the big young ones and Perrine really played their hearts out and tried everything they had. But there had to be a loser in this moonicide quarter final.

With New Moon playing their semis against Beezzz, Beezzz was yet again coming up against a Mooncatchers team…
Alas, 2 or 3 unfortunate errors in the second part and at the end of the match kept New Moon from getting to the final...

Moon 1, who are also known as Mooncatchers, won their quarter-final against Diabolic by the skin of their teeth, 6-5, when they had begun with a 5-2 lead…
In the semi-final, a big and beautiful game was shown by both teams, but the Moon took the first break at 6-4, and didn’t fall behind again after that. Moon 1 was in total confidence after such a match and ready for the big final against Freezzz Beezzz.

It was a huge final, because it was the final, but also because the field finally was of a normal size, which gave more space for a bigger spectacle.
The show during the day wasn’t the best because of the small size of the fields, the main interest being the suspense due to the tight score of most of the matches.

The atmosphere was amazing, with Mooncatchers everywhere in the bleachers, and the suspense could be felt in the air.
1-0 for the Moon, a break for 2-0, then 2-1, 2-2, 3-4 for the Beezzz, 4-4, 5-4, and then…a huge foot block from Benoît on PJ, time-out taken by the Moon, and then 6-4. The tone was rising in the hall, each point from the Moon followed by an ovation by the crowd from ULB and Flying Rabbits, but especially by all the Mooncatchers present, that were literally bringing heat to the sports hall.

One could start to hear faint “Est-ce j’ai raison? Ohé ohé ohé…”, it was still a bit early, but one could feel that the players were in confidence, and were playing their best ultimate, were truly letting their hearts speak, and that the Beezzz would probably never make the come-back. John, with a great catch between two Bruges players, one of whom was PJ. Arthur with a D, and the Moon stayed ahead and even took a 3-point lead. And then, the Moon spectators really went nuts, which encouraged Benoît to throw a full-field-no-look-behind-the-back scoober, which was caught by Arthur for the score!

“Est-ce qu’on a raison? Oui on a raison” started ringing across the hall. “Mooncatchers, Mooncatchers, Mooncatchers Champion, Ohé, ohé, ohé ohé, we are the champions, we are the champions”. Even though the match wasn’t over yet, we could already feel the victory.
Ben came running, spinning his t-shirt over his head and singing with the crowd.

The 2 last points were pure joy, and the Moons finally united to sing and celebrate the victory together.

The final ranking is Belgian Champions (Mooncatchers), 4th (New Moon), 5th (Full Moon) and 8th place (Dark Side of the Moon) of the Play-Offs!!!
The Mooncatchers completely dominated the indoor scene this season, and our titles in U14, U17 and U19 in 2016 lead me to believe that it’s not over yet!

It was a hungry but smiling and happy bunch of Moon that made its way to the Schievelavabo to finish off the successful day, with or without a few (or more) Jambes de Bois.
