On Sunday November 15th, the first indoor U16 tournament, Pigearth Schmindoor, took place in Gent, with a total of 8 teams competing.
First of all, a big thanks to Gentle and Dajo for organizing this tournament, that enables the younger players in Belgium to gain a lot of experience by competing in their own tournament. Especially since there probably won't be any Junior's Day this year.
Two U16 Mooncatchers teams competed. We opted for a stronger team with the older players, and an overall younger second team (11, 12 and 13 years of age). 18 of our junior players participated.
Our morning meeting at the Stalle parking lot reminded me of the days when I used to go play rugby on Sunday mornings..., all the kids and the numerous parents, all together to organize the short trip.
The tournament started off with an easy victory for Mooncatchers 2 against Diabolic, and Mooncatchers 1 against the Skywalkers.
Moon 1 will end up losing only 3 points to the opposing teams in the 3 group stage matches!
The "little" Moon 2 played very well against Beezz and against Gentle 1, but no doubt about it, those two teams were stronger.
Considering the average age of Moon 2, these two defeats are normal and the two matches contributed to the growing experience of our youngest players.
Semi-final for Moon 1 against Beezz, which was a fairly easily won match.
In the other semi, Gentle 1 came out victorious over JetSet, the latter having older players, but with slightly less experience.
The final was thus Gentle 1 against Mooncatchers 1.., the classico that had already been seen in the Belgian U16 division!
Moon 2 won their semi-final for places 5 to 8 by beating... Gentle 2, in a very nice match where the "little" Moon played incredibly, the "O" team scoring nearly all its points without any turns!
They ended up losing the match for the 5th place against the Skywalkers who had a stronger team, but not without putting up a very good fight until the end, almost bringing the score up to a tie towards the end of the match.
The final was the only tight match played by Moon 1, and this was thanks to a very motivated Gentle 1 which gave a huge match, Maarten catching 4 amazing high discs over Kuba who is nevertheless a very talented player when it comes to heights.
In the end, Moon 1 won the match 10-8, carefully controlling their 3 points difference that they took at the beginning of the match.
+3, +2, +3, +2.
The Moon had 2 opportunities to takea 4-point lead, but missed the opportunity twice.
However, they ensured their last two offensive plays with Christian, Ernest's little brother, who exchanged a series of effective and safe give-and-goes with Nicolas. A beautiful final in any case, and a tight one, with magnificent plays from all the Moon players and a huge layout from Kuba.
The future (of the future) Belgian Ultimate was there!
The Spirit was excellent as well, and the behaviour shown by the Moon was great, and in my opinion, exemplary. The other teams showed an equally high level of spirit, which made this tournament very good in terms of SoG.
Too bad that Benjamin and Samuel didn't take part in this tournament, because Moon's domination might have been even stronger!
The next step for our club's young players will be the Belgian Junior Championship which will take place in Leuven, January 3rd 2016. 3 divisions are expected: U19, U17 and U14 (for the very first time!). We should be able to subscribe 4 or 5 Mooncatchers teams, with our objective being the 3 top spots.
And Moon history just keeps moving on.

Tout d'abord un grand merci à Gentle et Dajo pour avoir organisé ce tournoi qui permet aux plus jeunes joueurs de Belgique d'également se faire de l'expérience en jouant des compétitions.
D'autant qu'il n'y aura sans doute pas de Juniors' Day cette année.

On a opté pour une équipe plus forte avec les plus âgés, et une équipe composée des plus jeunes (11, 12 et 13 ans)

Le rdv au parking de Stalle m'a rappelé l'époque où j'allais au rugby le dimanche matin..., tous les enfants et de nombreux parents, ensemble pour organiser le déplacement.
Le tournoi commence par une victoire assez facile pour Mooncatchers 2 contre les Diabolic, et Mooncatchers 1 contre les Skywalkers.
Moon 1 n'"encaissera" que 3 points en 3 matches de poule !
Les "petits" de Moon 2 joueront très bien contre les Beezzz et contre Gentle 1, mais rien à faire, ces 2 équipes étaient plus fortes.
Étant donné la moyenne d'âge de Moon2, ces 2 défaites sont normales et ces 2 matches ont beaucoup appris à nos tous jeunes joueurs.
1/2 finale pour Moon 1 contre les Beezz, match gagné assez facilement.
Dans l'autre 1/2, Gentle 1 battra Jet Set qui avait des joueurs plus âgés, mais manquant d'expérience.
La finale sera donc Gentle1 / Mooncatchers 1..., le classico déjà chez les U16 !
Moon 2 gagnera sa 1/2 finale pour les places 5 à 8 en battant... Gentle 2, dans un très beau match où les "p'tits" Moon ont super bien joué, l'équipe "O" marquant presque tous ses points sans turn-over !
Ils perdront le match pour la 5ème place contre les Skywalkers qui étaient plus forts, mais pas sans leur avoir donné une très grosse résistance jusqu'au bout, manquant de revenir à égalité juste à la fin du match.
La finale sera le seul match serré pour Moon 1, et cela grâce à un Gentle 1 super motivé et qui a fait un très gros match, Maarten effectuant 4 catchs extraordinaires en hauteur contre Kuba qui pourtant est fort en l'air également.
Malgré tout, les Moon 1 s'imposent 10/8, maîtrisant très bien leur avance de 3 points acquise en début de match.
+3, +2, +3, +2.
Les Moons ont eu l'occasion 2 fois de prendre 4 points d'avance, mais ont raté 2 fois cette opportunité.
Mais ils assureront très bien leurs 2 dernières attaques avec Christian, le petit frère d'Ernest, qui enchaînera une série de une-deux très efficace et sûrs avec Nicolas.
Très belle finale en tout cas, accrochée, avec des très belles actions de tous les Moons et un mega dive de Kuba.
Le futur (du futur) de l'Ultimate belge était là !
Le Spirit était très chouette et le comportement des Moons juniors a été super et je trouve, exemplaire.
Les autres équipes aussi et donc ce tournoi était top en terme de SoG.
Dommage que Benjamin et Samuel n'ont pas participé à ce tournoi, parce que la domination des Moons aurait été plus forte encore !
Prochaine étape maintenant pour les jeunes du club, le Championnat de Belgique Junior qui aura lieu à Leuven le 3 janvier 2016.
3 divisions normalement : U19, U17 et U14 (pour la 1ère fois !).
On devrait y inscrire 4 ou 5 équipes Mooncatchers, et on y visera les 3 titres.
Et l'histoire des Moons continue.
